Guru(Malayalam)

Guru(Malayalam)

This is my ever favorite malayalam movie. I think many of our people doesn’t like this movie and probably, if they happened to see this movie, they might change the channel as soon as possible. Actually, I haven’t seen any movie in malayalam which has such a great significance in the present day world. It reveals the need of a GURU(spiritual leader) for the whole human race who are constantly striving in the darkness of evil.

The main character Reghuraman(Mohanlal) is an ordinary man who lost his family and relatives in a communal riot and somehow, an urge for taking revenge sprouts in his mind. And when he was about to commit that great sin, Guru is preventing him from his deeds by enlightening him. Each and every visual we see after this scene has got its own meaning, and unfortunately, our people have no time for ideas.

Let’s come back. Reghuraman was dropped from the top of a snow-covered mountain into a valley, some thousands of kilometers down. That valley and mountain signifies time. Great leaders will come at times(as Lord Krishna told in Bhagavat Gita- Yadha yadha hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bharata) when the balance of evil is at a very low height compared to that of the balance of divinity. These leaders are coming from another point of time, another frame of reference, another dimension, which normal humans cannot perceive. As a bee or spider views this world, we are viewing them. They sacrifice themselves for the upheaval of humanity. As far as I’m concerned, Jesus was one of the greatest saints who shed his life blood for humanity.

That valley has got many unique features. The inhabitants are all blind. They are analogous to the present world. In that world, there is immense advance of technologies. Their technological concepts are so superb even if they’re not having the power of vision. In that movie, there is a dialogue “please go, if someone hears your claim that there is another world of vision, they’ll kill you.” Yes that was what happened with all our great leaders. When they preached the doctrine of clear vision, the blind world threw stones at them.

No one in that valley believed his claim. At last, when he talked to some children about a world of vision beyond this world of darkness, they were eager to know more. They believed him. From this we can understand another thing that true vision should be given during childhood itself. Only children can lead this world to peace.

Then comes another concept, the concept of the holy fruit. When a child is born, the first custom is to give the essence of this fruit. The seed of that fruit is considered to be a deadly poison. One day when he happened to eat that fruit, he loses his sight. That fruit signifies desires. When man is indulged in acquiring wealth and accumulate greed, he loses his real vision.

When Reghuraman realized this fact, he told the world that the fruit is poisonous and it was because of this fruit that everyone lost their sight. When he questioned the divinity of their holy fruit, they sentenced him to death and that too by serving him the essence of the most poisonous seed. He was ready to accept the sentence and he drank the poison. But he regains his sight and thus he understood that this fruit can provide vision to them. Then the whole valley started believing him and he promises that he can give them vision. They were all shut in a dark cave for several days and by the time they got their sight, Reghuraman was sentenced to death by the King of the Blinds.

Now the total scene changes and the colorless world appears colorful. People searched for their leader(GURU) and total upheaval took place. They dethroned the blind king and the message of peace spread everywhere.

After this visual enlightenment, Reghuraman refuses to commit the sin and went back. This sort of enlightenment should be given to the present world. What is the point in killing others for the sake of one’s community? After all, there is only one race in this world- The race called humanity. Only an overall enlightenment followed by the dethroning of evil, this world can raise to spread the message of peace and brotherhood.

Jai Hind..!!!
